OAKLAND, Calif. -- Stephen Jackson told Warriors general manager Larry Riley and coach Don Nelson in a private meeting on Tuesday that he didn't want to be a captain anymore. They said that was fine with them. That's the first piece of fallout to come out of Jackson's two-game suspension for conduct detrimental. But judging by Jackson's tone during a 10-minute interview, it might not be the last.
Jackson once again made it clear he's not happy in Golden State, but continued to maintain he'll play hard as long as he's a Warrior. But it seems obvious that will be a significant challenge.
When asked about the meeting, which occurred before the team's noon practice, Jackson said: "It was a meeting, no different than any other meeting I've had. I go in there, listen to what they've got to say and come back and play basketball. Whether I pay attention to it or not, that's up to me. But I had to show up. So I showed up."
Jackson indicated that he didn't think Nelson supported him on Friday night, when he was picking up five fouls and a technical foul in less than 10 minutes of a preseason game against the Lakers, and more specifically Kobe Bryant.
"If I would have felt that way (like he had Nelson's support), I wouldn't have blown up," Jackson said.
Jackson also made it clear that he didn't walk off the floor on Friday night. He said Nelson sent him to the locker room.
As for giving up his captaincy, Jackson said: "That's just the way I feel. That's just the way I feel. Don't try to dig into it. That's just the way I feel."
Later Jackson said being a captain was "overrated."
Jackson said his relationship with Nelson has changed. As recently as a couple of weeks ago, Nelson said he "loved" Jackson and that he understood him."Of course (it's changed), anytime someone takes hundred some thousand, $150,000 from you, of course it's going to change," Jackson said. "Regardless of who it is. If my mom took some money from me, I'd still love her to death but I'd be upset about it. And he's not my mom so you can imagine how I feel.
"I've just have to listen. I have to give him that respect ... to listen to him when he's coaching. So I'm going to give him that. But as far as being a man off the court I don't listen. I've got to listen to him on the court and that's it. I'm going to give him that respect."
When Jackson was asked if he thought there would be more issues down the line with Nelson and the Warriors, he responded: "I don't know. We'll have to wait and see. I can't predict the future."
Nelson, who spoke to the media before Jackson did, opened his comments this way:
"The prodigal son has returned. It's good to have Jack back. We're going to keep him in the same position as far as my starting three is concerned. We met this morning. What went on in the meeting will remain private, in house. He served his suspension and we're ready to roll."

Diva! Who in the world is going to touch him now?
Who even cares about him? He's an overrated jerk -- always has been. He can leave the NBA and no one except his mama will give two sh~ts.
The Warriors will give him $36 mil unless they rob him. That is worth a lot more than two of what you mentioned. I`d be willing to take $36 mil to be on the taxi squad, though maybe not in OakLand. I`d tend to get a similar cold reaction from their fans as most nba guys do on the internet. 5`8 white guys, who can`t run and jump and shoot, with no women`s jewelry, no tattoos, a moderately long beard, are as unwelcome in most pro sports inner cities as 6`8, who can ran and jump and shoot, with women`s jewelry, tattooed, bearless, black guys tend to be on the world wide web in the US. His being a fiery competitor would attract teams, it is his being owed $9 mil a year thru age 35, which is not a bargain in this depressed economy.
BUMMMMMM
Giles you are pretty funny! You see ... You miscalculate Mr Jackson and his EGO! Yes he has a very fat contract with Golden State and can ride the pine for $9 million a year ... just do as he's told and play 12 minutes of relief forward and laugh all the way to the bank ... But Jackson is a egomaniac like most professional athletes and riding the pine and keeping his mouth shut is out of the question! Warrior fans have seem it over and over again and I think Jackson is very much like Latrel Spreewell ... simply a "ME-Me" kinda guy who will throw tantrums or act stupid ... not play hard or act insubordinate and millions will be saved in each year until someone is stupid enough to pay the money to buy him from the Warriors. Don't mistake for one minute that Mr Jackson ... who can run and jump and wear womens jewelry is all that or on the world wide web (that was pretty funny Giles ... this guy is a whining temper tantrum waiting to happen) ... and Jackson will blow millions being the silly azz egomaniac who he so is ... because that is all he knows! It isn't about a team or organization to Mr Jackson ... The World Evolves Around Stephen Jackson is the only world he knows. He is a spoiled useless jock with an ego out of control and incapable of playing basketball for the team or even for the money ... it is all about his ego ... and what is apparent for the Warriors is they have a bench full of young talent that are better than Jackson and who will be the stars this year ... and the only way Jackson can keep his ego in check is if he is the focus. Sorry Giles and Stephen Jackson ... being a black bald guy who can run and jump who has regressed top pond scum in mentality is just simply going to self destruct and when his spirit is even further broken they will ship him off to the worst NBA team in the league and listen to him whine from the opposite coast. LOL ... "on the world wide web" ... TFF!!!
To the point and right on the money Reikilight, the only thing I would add is that Mr. Jackson says being captain is 'OVER RATED',,,,I do believe that is the only thing he knows anything about,,,,,,,,,,,being OVER RATED that is.
One thing he's not is a star or captain material, second, he's over-rated, third, he's an egomaniac peice of...
Just another NBA egomaniac who didn't get a chance to grow up before he was the toast of the town making millions a year. If you had to have four years of college before you could play in the NBA it would make both games better, but money talks.
Going to college has nothing to do with this, this is a mental thing. Jackson would be the same if he had gone eight years in College. Stupidity is birth given. Not college given
Sorry ... I disagree! Part of the problem is how these boys are treated in high school then college! Most of them get a free ride simply to play ball ... they are given free food, free place to stay ... tuition covered ... they are given a token job that they do very little at and alumni donate money and things to further spoil them. They are pampered so much their little pea brains begin to actually think they deserve more than "regular people" because they are an athlete. Stupid is what what stupid does! Jackson's problem is not from a lack of schooling ... it is due to a lack of class! He is simply another egomaniac who thinks he can hold up the Warriors to be traded ... even though he just signed a contract extension! I agree with the league should have standard guidelines for suspension for gross insubordination ... automatic six month suspension without pay. Then at least we'd see how creative these egomaniacs could be dancing around the line ... rather than stomping all over it! Suspend him or fine him ... but hold onto him and make him ride the pine! He is as stupid as they get in the NBA!
He was a jerk when he was with the Pacers . Wonder who is a fault
I think Jackson has once again proven why he should be classified as one of the sports worlds "head cases." Every sport has them, some have more than others, but they all have them. It's sad & also confusing, when someone with the kind of talent that he has in his sport, seems to be looking for ways to throw it away & become some sort of outcast in that sport.
Steve Jackson is a waste of an orgasm. Get his ass out of the league.
JUST ANOTHER SFN, WHO WOULD BE SLINGING DOPE ON THE CORNER IF HE COULDN'T BALL SFN
When you sign a contract with a Team, and later on you decide you don't want to be there, and start disrupting the Team, the NBA should suspend that player for the rest of the season. During the off season is when all this bickering should take place, not at the beginning of the season. The NBA got to take a stand on situations like this.
