ORLANDO -- Stephanie Fisher thought it was just another internet scam when she signed up to follow Dwight Howard on Twitter (@DwightHoward) two months ago, and up popped a message saying she was a lucky prize winner.Yeah, right, she thought.
The message said she was Howard's one millionth follower, which meant she had won a trip for two to Orlando to meet the Magic star and watch the opening game Wednesday night against the Philadelphia 76ers.
"I didn't believe it at all,'' she said after the game. "So I just ignored it at first.''
Fisher, who is from Sacramento, kept getting personal messages from Howard's Twitter account until finally it sunk it. She had won the prize that included airfare, game tickets and hotel accommodations downtown. She and her son Lawrence flew to Orlando Wednesday and watched the game from the 10th row. They were scheduled to fly home Thursday.
They met Howard after the game and thanked him. Howard has embraced the social networking of Twitter, building an enormous following.
"This turned out to be unbelievable for me,'' Fisher said. "I'll remember it for a long time. This is not something you do every day. It made me a fan, that's for sure.''
