Manu Ginobili had a recent encounter with a bat at a recent Spurs game, the video of which has since been broadcast on almost every blog you can find. And in commenting sections on these sites across the world, people joked about how PETA would respond. And now they have -- and it is exactly what you would expect from them.
From PETA.org:
Here's our take on it: To bludgeon a 4-ounce animal to death, it takes either a small man or a totally unthinking one-with no respect or consideration for lives humbler than his own. This is a time when athletes in particular need to be on their best behavior around any animal and show that they have brains and a heart, not just reactionary brawn. Now, ordinarily, I wouldn't leave a hyperlink in a blockquote ... except PETA decided to link to their "Michael Vick" blog tag while describing one of the two things that Manu could be for "bludgeoning" the bat.
I normally have some ill-will-filled feelings towards PETA, because I tend to think they rely too much on publicity stunts and less on "actually helping animals."
But this time, they've really crossed the line; not only do they fail to realize that some fan (and not, you know, Manu) brought the bat in the arena, but they decided to compare what amounts to Ginobili's self-defense to Vick torturing dogs.
And that folks, is just a bunch of guano.

well he (and Michael Vick) probably killed less animals than you PETA. They're in no position to tease people about killing innocent animals right now, not with 2,124 dead animals (in a year) on your head
can u please link me to something where u got that number? i hate peta and would love to read about it

sorry if this keeps popping up I don't think its taking
@Gurn Z b:
Start here: http://www.petakillsanimals.com/. Otherwise, internet search engines are your friend.
Ugh. I hate this. PETA is constantly giving vegetarians and vegans alike a bad name. WE'RE NOT ALL ASSOCIATED WITH PETA!
I'm really starting to believe that PETA is funded by the meat industry to make all of the vegetarians look bad.
The bat did not die and Manu is undergoing the rabies series as the bat was released alive and it is unknown if it carried rabies. PETA needs to get their facts straight.
PETA is supposedly too busy "respecting animals" meanwhile they disrespect real people. I cant believe they have the nerve to talk down to Manu, he was only helping an arena of concerned people.(I know, I was there) PETA just needs to shut up because they are responsible for putting down thousands of animals (like cats and dogs, our pets)every year. The way I see it ....they have no say anymore. They are freakin idiots!
The PETA freaks always have a field day when a person is attacked by a wild animal, saying crap like "People shouldn`t invade their habitat". Well, it works both ways if you stand by that logic. The bat was in our "natural habitat" and got what it deserved.
The faults lie with the person releasing the bat as a Halloween prank for the cameras, and the person, not necessarily the same person, who originally falsely reported the bat killed. Peta may have merely been deceived in that regard. Though an isolated incident of batting down a possibly wild bat is a far cry from systematically betraying and abusing pets. Tough bats ar not as dangerous as dogs. Some bats are plant eaters, others are insect eaters, none kill large prey, as dogs, when hungry, will do. And allegedly 99% of rabies is transmitted by dogs, and even if a bat does bite a person, there is allegedly only a half percent chance it will be rabid. But most folks know better than to hate dogs, it is a shame Vick probably still doesn`t know better.
This is total Bat Guano indeed. It's unfortunate the bat died, but it's not like Manu killed the bat because he wanted to. Jeesh.
He didn't even kill the bat. Manu said it was "stunned" and it has been released back into the wild already. It's fine.
Manu speaks about bats and rabies shots ... discourages children from doing the same... the bat lived!!! Spread the word to PETA.

I don't see how PETA is likening Manu's act to Vick's. You fail in comparison.
MMMMMMMMM... Meat!!!!
1st I HATE freaking PETA!! These harmless bats as they say do carry rabies, if you don't believe that ask the 43 year man in southern Indiana who died as the result of being bitten by a bat!! I would feel a lot better if for once PETA took a stance that had to do with children or for that matter a human! No such thing as a food chain in their world!
What's wrong with PETA?
I love eating tasty animals.
No Manu is not going to be the next Michael Vick. I wonder what Peta would have done if it was some kid that did it and not manu. So PETA stop saying that Manu Ginobili is going to be like Michael Vick. Because Michael Vick went to prison for dog fighting not hitting a bat.
PETA SHUT THE **** UP...firstly of all how are you going to compare dog fighting to one bat?...imean if u were in a stadium full of ppl and a bat was buzzing around all annoying lyke wat r u gonna do, pulla butterfly net out of your basketballl shorts? imean the man is fast but he's not magic he has hands so he swung and hit...SHUT UP UGH
peta needs to get a life. Manu did nothing but swat the bat down and he then picked it up and gave it to an usher. From my understanding the bat was alive and released. Manu did not bring the bat to the arena. He was merely trying to get the game going again. peta has no basis in linking Manu with michael vick. Manu is a class act and always will be. So see you next bat week on this same bat channel...
Will Brinson, your article reflects your personality. Anyone that don't care about animals, great and small, are not the marrying type nor should be a parent at all. How come? You lack kindness, mercy and understanding. As a child I heard and believed negative things about rats and bats until as an adult, someone handed me a baby squirrel, eyes still closed. His name is Amazing, never lived in a cage and such a wondrous gentle creature, I met a local famous squirrel lady. She gave me a little book she published. A lot I didn't know about squirrels. For instance I asked my little son to bring fallen branches for Amazing. One of them was infested with termites, I started to pick it up to throw it in the fire, Amazing suddenly lunged onto the branch and gobbled up all the termites. Another shocker is the urine is odorless and stainless. When Amazing got big, I moved him to my back screened porch complete with branches, gymnastics galore and a pillowcase hung in the corner. It is their nature to panic into freezing when approached by a vehicle, they ended up run over. Drivers are not educated to stop completely to give squirrels a chance to stop panicking, drivers blow the horn until the squirrel looks at the vehicle and moves out of the road completely. Now you know, if you run over squirrel without respect and kill it, you are cruel because you know the nature of the squirrels. Bats? Not all have rabies. They are gentle. Not all are vampire bats, for goodness' sakes. They keep mosquitoes in control. Squirrels keep termites in control. Cats keep rats in control. Mice/rats keeps scorpions in control. Surprised!!!!! Without these gentle non-rabid animals, it'd become a standard to build only brick/concrete houses and everybody will be prepared to die young from the inevitible poisonous insecticides/pesticides. My parents recalls their young days being harrassed by flies and mosquitos right here in America.
I still remember a lot of flies, especially the metallic-emerald colored flies and during the 90s and early 2000s, came across deformed frogs and eerily almost silent nights. I eliminated all insecticides and pesticides. One night I went out on the porch and had the biggest scare of my life. it took me few mins to realize I had forgotton the sound of crickets and croaking frogs!!! It is the most magnificent sound ever!
I watched one video taken in China by PETA and am still traumatized today by this memory burned into my conciousness since 2004, by a white chow chow adult dog in agonizing pain, still alive and moving immediately after it was completely skinned , I actually screamed and got so nauseated and already decided not to have anything to do with China and that their worship for Buddism and 10,000 yrs of wisdom is all hogwash and they are all zombie-like creatures...not human beings who keeps animals alive while being skinned and amputated and mutilated. It's inhumane without a doubt. Imagine them torturing human spies. I'm all for PETA. I swat flies but I never pull their wings while it's alive. I can't even hook up earthworms after I learned in biology why earthworms are chosen for dissection in biology classes. Earthworms are full of nerves. I learned from anotomy the reason humans feel pain are due to nerves. The sight of worm wriggling frantically as soon as the tip of a hook pricks it killed all interest forever in fishing (and hunting, too) for pleasure and for sports and complete abbhorrence towards all poachers and 3rd world fur/skin farmers and buyers of dead animal parts for decoration purposes, not for food and for warmth against natural hostile elements. Once in the forest I saw a beautiful big white (albino?) 3 legged doe prancing across the dirt road and into the forest, never to be seen again. I am constantly filled with awe and wonder towards all God's creations on Earth and through the skies. Will, you only care about sports and famous athletes, you are compelled to defend them. That's understandable. PETA used famous athletes because these athletes are looked up by impressible kids and adults, too, as "idols" which they aren't but since they are looked up to, PETA is correct to highlight these athletes' lack of understanding animals. Uneducated without compassion and understanding of animals. Do they donate to animals defense organizations, too, or only to scholarships for universities and schools, shelters for children/women and rainforests, excluding the animals' Right to Life and respect ? Will, those athletes are role models, not idols, not to be revered more than God and Jesus.
