Just after the first quarter buzzer sounded at the Meadowlands, Nate Robinson of the Knicks turned and fired a three-pointer at the basket of the New Jersey Nets. The shot went in, and, being as the period had already ended, the basket was waved off by the official. No harm done, right? Uh, wrong. Mike D'Antoni was furious at Robinson for even trying such a stunt, especially with it coming so closely after the buzzer.
(UPDATE: Apparently, D'Antoni holds a grudge: he kept Robinson on the bench for the rest of the game.)
Knicks! Nets! NBA action at its finest. Video of the shot and the exchange, after the jump.

im not sure what the big deal is it was after the buzzer no harm no foul
wake up grandpa...that was a ridiculous stunt...wrong in every way...a complete lack of respect...for the game , his teammates and his coach...
reason #53 why the Knicks are such losers!!! If you got half a second, toss the ball toward your own goal a**hole!! I live in NYC and it's impossible to root for a team such as this
To grandpa - No harm no foul? Since it was so close to the buzzer, he could have inadvertently shot just before the buzzer. This is the same idea as some plays in football where some smart ass breaks away for a 98 yard touchdown run and celebrates by holding the ball out, then getting it slapped from his hand one yard short, as in the Super Bowl between the Patriots and the Bears. (The Bears were up by 50 at that point). Also, in this case it could be considered taunting, unsportsmanlike conduct and draw a technical foul, even after the quarter ended.I have seen it happen in football where a flag is thrown after the quarter ended and the yardage is tacked on to the first play of the next quarter. Period over, doesn't matter.
pcfriar66 I believe you mean the Cowboys-Bills Super Bowl not the Patriot-Bears game. Tell me how the Bears could have lead their game by 50 points when they "only" scored 46. I know what you are saying and other than getting the wrong game, you are right. But in order to be right all the way you must get the right game.
Its almost impossible to turn, aim and shoot in 0.5 seconds. It wasnt even close. Nate is still a little stupid for doing it regardless but it was never going to count. WHEN Lebron does that next season D'Antoni will give him a high five.
LOL I'm glad he got benched for the rest of the game... that was a stupid thing he did. What a bone head !!
whats d'antoni bitching about? he can only have five of this mentality playing at one time as opposeed to up to eleven. lol.
pcfriar66 I think your super bowls are mixed up, it was Dallas vs Buffalo, Leon Lett got the ball knocked out of his hands...
Mike D was right to bench him for a stupid mistake or deliberate shot like that, After all arnt they supposed to be professionals and Not amatures, Mikw D is a good man and from Marshall University where he was an outstanding ball player and shooter and a member of Marshalls 8th ranked team in the USA Polls and best team Marshall ever had in History!!His brother Dan is also a great ball player too(Marshall U)
D'antoni should play Curry
more often, after all he is
making a lot of $$$$$$ sitting
down ala McGrady (highest paid)
or ala marbury (long gone) or
ala Yao and so on ........
Curry at 6,11 and 300 pounds
shold help some ;
In fact, in the victory against
Indiana he did play very well
coming from the bench, done.
No respect for the game, Natie boy, then no respect for you
Im not much of an NBA fan, but dont you need 0.7 seconds(with a tip-in) to score a basket from an out of bounds play..I could be wrong
Maybe Nate wants OUT???
No on ever said they were smart!
This is just a smartass move to grab attention away from the rest of the team. A time for the spotlight to be on him. The ego of this man-you don't have to be a genuis to know all eyes are on you when you do something like this and it will be the talk of the town for weeks if not months. Men play basketball and little boys sit on the bench, Nate.
I'm a New York Fan on every level except for the knicks. The Owners of the Knicks need to improve them or just move out of New York and take their suckie team with them.
Yet another reason, why I am barely an NBA fan anymore. When I was growing up, I was a die-hard NBA fan and couldn't wait for the season to start. Now I honestly don't care anymore. Today's players are not as classy, intelligent or even as exciting as the ones I grew up watching. With the exception of a few, the majority of the modern players are overpaid, gangsta wannabe thugs. I'm so sick of non-chalant attitude of all of these guys who complain about being "underpaid" while making a living doing something they love somuch that they would probably do it for free. At least the majority of these aholes will end up blowing all of their "hard earned" money before they're in their forties. Unlike the NBA which is marketed as an individual sport, at least the NFL, MLB as well as college basketball and football are still team sports where they usually discipline or even cut players who are detrimental to their team or their leagues. Here's me crossing my fingers hoping that the economy forces the majority of the NBA to start lowering salaries or better yet shutting down teams so the majority of the players end upon the street, so they can get back to their "roots".
Just another "hey, look at me" stunt and of course it worked. These showoffs may have a single digit IQ, but they know how to manipulate the media. Oops, I must be a racist. I just told the truth.
