Matt Barnes is the kind of player that always makes an impact on the game. The problem is that sometimes the impact is against his own team. He's a high-energy contributer that plays with a lot of fire. And sometimes that fire gets the better of him, as it did against the Heat on Wednesday. Barnes was fined $20,000 for throwing the ball into the stands during the Magic's 99-98 loss to the Heat on Wednesday. Barnes has actually been quite good in a role-player support for the Magic, coming in 2nd in the team in defensive rebounds per 40 minutes. Unfortunately, he's also third on the team with turnovers per 40, and has more turnovers per 40 than assists. Like I said, he's going to make an impact, one way or another.
Barnes has a history of brash behavior, so no one should be stunned at tossing the ball to the stands. You do have to wonder what Stan Van Gundy thinks about such rabble rabble, even the kinder, gentler SVG.

Matt is a great player, he tossed the ball
with no ill will;
Many baseball players toss balls
into the stands either way and a
baseball can hurt-you big time not a
b-ball , so is double standard
between baseball and basketball ??
You are not allowed to intentionally toss/throw balls into the audience in the NBA. During a game, a technical foul is issued and depending on the referee, an automatic suspension. Bouncing a ball too high out of frustration can warrant that as well.
I think you made a minor error. Miami and Orlando hooked up on Wednesday; not Friday.
