(Update: Lorenzen Wright Death Investigation Ongoing)Memphis homicide investigators arrived at the scene where the body of former NBA player and University of Memphis star Lorenzen Wright was reportedly found with multiple gunshot wounds on Wednesday.
Police spokeswoman Alyssa Macon-Moore would only confirm to FanHouse that a body had been found in southeast Memphis and homicide investigators were on scene. The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported that the body was indeed Wright's and WHBQ-TV reported that Lorenzen's body had sustained a dozen gunshot wounds. Both reports cited sources within the Memphis Police Department.
"This is an ongoing investigation," Macon-Moore said in an e-mail. "When further details are available we will update the media."
Deborah Marion, Wright's mother, and a handful of family members were among the nearly 200 people who gathered outside the crime scene Wednesday night, The Associated Press reported. The distraught Marion was turned away twice by officers, the second time as she attempted to run toward the scene.
The discovery of Wright's body comes after his family reported him missing last Thursday. Wright, 34, likely had a lot of cash on him when he was last seen leaving his ex-wife's Collierville, Tenn., home, fueling concerns he may be the victim of foul play, according to a Collierville police report released Wednesday.
A source told the Commercial Appeal that police are looking into a 911 hangup call from Wright's cellphone left July 19 -- the day he disappeared.
Wright, the seventh overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers, flew in from Atlanta to Memphis to visit friends and his six children, friends told the newspaper.
He was scheduled to catch a ride back to the Atlanta area July 19 with a buddy and with his six kids in tow. He was last seen in the wee hours of that morning, at about 2 a.m., leaving his ex-wife's home. His former wife, Sherra Robinson Wright, 39, told police she doesn't know who he left with or what type of car they were in, according to the missing persons report.
FanHouse staff contributed to this report.

OMG we are heartbroken in Memphis. May God be pleased with him. Family, you have opur prayers.
He was accidentally shot - 12 times!!
Authorities are concerned he may have met with foul play? You mean the 12 gunshot wounds weren't enough to convince anyone that he HAD met with foul play? Duh...!!
Most of you people are idiots. This surely was not a robbery. A thief is not going to stay there and shoot you 12 times. It would be one and run. This was a murder of passion for sure.
She had something to do with it. Sherra should be heavily investigated. Only she knew who he was with, what he was wearing, how much money he had. She had something to do with it! I hope the police see she was involved. RIP. I never thought this would be the resolution to this tragedy. Prayers go out to the family.
But why is what get me!
Sounds like you know something Gina, you have more information that the story had! Maybe the cops should "heavily investigate" you too!?
So many experts on the web today..it's surprising y'all don't have badges yourself!
So you "hope" his wife was involved? You are a special breed of idiot Gina.
I totally agree! I've said that from the beginning, when they first reported him missing!
Oh,yeah. If there is one thing a babymamma that is getting thousands of dollars a month in child support checks dreams of,it is her Golden Goose getting killed and the checks not coming in anymore.
Good thinking!
Chances are it was one of her friends that knew he would be there and that he carries a lot of cash on him, though.
Very very sad...
RIP Lorenzen!!!!!!! you played a hell of a game. You will be truly missed. God bless the family. Thw world will be praying for the family. To the children you now have a personal guardian angel who looks in on yall and keeps you safe.
Yeah, the same DHS worker that has been looking in on his kids. Like most of the kids in the Memphis area!
donnafreddie1 cuddos to you for posting something good for the family. all this speculation and nasty comments will go nowhere. No matter what else there are now at least six people looking over their shoulder scared asking why and could it happen to me or my brother/sister etc and so very very sad. He is after all, their dad first, not a statistic
I strongly belive robbery was not the cause of murder, this sound's very suspecious, i belive he left with someone he knew whom is a person of interest, or the person know's about the case. Sorry to hear about the bad new's, Hope the person or person's involved in his murder are caught and brought to justice.
Too bad this won't be on THE FIRST 48.
LOL funny, but not funny. I watch it all the time and Memphis Homicide is always front and center - gettin it DONE. R.I.P. L Dub.
Or "Crime 360"
Lakergregg, are you sure?
Yes, because our police chief here in Memphis will not allow Memphis to participate in that program any longer. Get this, he thought it put us in a bad light! Brother, like being something like #5 for murders in the country isn't a clue!!!!!
